Why you should label boxes
If you’ve never moved house before, it might seem like a waste of time labelling boxes. You’ll remember what’s what and what’s where! You did pack it after all… Right?
However, upon arrival at your new home, when someone asks for the kettle to make a cuppa or a roll of toilet paper, how will you distinguish the brown box with the kettle inside from the other brown boxes…?
It seems like an extra effort, but labelling boxes makes unpacking on arrival so much easier, especially finding those ‘everyday’ items. Murphy’s Law ensures you will open every box before you get to the one you need and then, what you need will be at the bottom.
Here’s a rough guide to labelling your boxes. Group these items together and label them:
- Kitchen appliances;
- Bathroom appliances;
- Trinkets and breakables;
- Linen and towels;
- ESSENTIALS – put your kettle, few mugs, toilet paper and any other items you might want immediately on arrival.
Or, you can label boxes with the room they belong in or came from, like this:
